Port Philip
Adapting to Climate Change
- Details
- Country : Australia
- Date : 2006
- Sector : Government and
Statutory Authorities
Port Philip City Council
The City of Port Phillip engaged Earth Systems to undertake a detailed assessment of the risks climate change poses to the City. The study investigated a variety of climate variables such as intense rainfall, higher maximum temperatures, storm surge and sea level rise and their respective impacts for 2020, 2050 and 2100. GIS mapping was undertaken, using the latest topographic data to model storm surge and stormwater flood risk. High resolution aerial photography maps were produced to visualise future climate change scenarios. The detailed and localised risk assessment provided the City of Port Phillip with a number of specific recommendations relating to areas of planning, infrastructure management and capacity building.
